CERF ISLAND - ROUND ISLAND

A FEW WORDS
THE ISLANDS OF SEYCHELLES, both granitic and coralline are situated on an underwater plateau called the Seychelles Plateau. There are 43 inner islands and 72 outlying islands.
The inner granitic islands are namely Mahe, Cerf island, Round island, Praslin, La Digue and Fregate. These green, tropical forest covered islands are hilly and mountainous and have fine white sandy beaches often framed with huge granite boulders.

THE STE ANNE MARINE PARK is an important part of the cultural and natural heritage of the Seychelles. It was created in 1973 to protect the marine environment of the inner islands, St Anne, Moyenne Island, Long Island, Round Island, Plate Island, Cerf Island, Cachée Island, all within 5 km from Mahe. The marine park, with its many ecosystems and clear waters is a habitat for many species, manta rays from April to December, dolphins, green turtles and thousands of multi coloured fishes. Consequently it’s a haven for snorkeler.

You can go on day trips to the marine park or stay in some of the small hotels on the islands and discover the park at your leisure, Round Island and Cerf Island being particularly worth a visit.

TROPICAL SANCTUARY CERF ISLAND - Villas

Cerf Island is a small island about 1.5 km long by 1 km wide and borders the St Anne Marine park which is on the northern side of Mahe. Cerf island is named after a ship of the French navy by the same name which arrived in Seychelles in 1756 . The commander of the expedition, Corneille Nicolas Morphey, placed a Stone of Posession on Mahe together with a 55ft mast onto which was hoisted the royal flag. Today, this stone can be seen in the Natural History Museum in Victoria.

Cerf Island is well known for its lovely beaches and is a great place to spend some relaxing days. The island forms the edge of the St Anne marine park and there is a long reef which is perfect for scuba diving. There are many nature trails through the island where one can see fruit bats, different species of birds, giant tortoises and rare chameleons.
The restaurants on the island offer great creole food in a very relaxed atmosphere. There are small boats that do the trips between Mahe and Cerf on a regular daily basis and it takes 10-15 mins by boat
to reach Cerf island from Mahe.

ENCHANTED ISLAND RESORT

Situated in the middle of the St Anne marine park near Mahe (15min by boat), Round Island is the smallest island of the group and is so called because the island is completely round. It is surrounded by lovely underwater seascapes which are ideal for snorkeling. The island also has lovely little beaches tucked in between granite boulders, a characteristic of the Seychelles and the swimming is delightful. The island is thickly wooded and looks very enchanting. There is a single hotel on the island consisting only of a few
villas decorated in a colonial style and reminds guests of days gone by. The hotel offers a desert island feel while having modern facilities, all set in an exceptional natural environment.
